How much does a new deck cost?

Do I need a permit for a deck or patio cover?
Usually yes — anything attached to the house, and most freestanding structures beyond a minimal size. Unpermitted structures come up at resale and in insurance claims. We pull the permit; it's not your problem.
Wood or composite decking?
Wood is cheaper up front and looks classic but needs sealing every couple of years. Composite costs more on day one and then asks nothing of you for decades. We build both and will give you the honest math for your budget.
Can you build on a slope or hillside?
Yes — that's engineered footing territory, which is exactly when you want a real GC instead of a handyman. Hillside decks are some of our favorite builds.
